SCOA western regional specialty - the darcin trophy
The Darcin Trophy is a Nambe ware tray in the shape of a hare that is mounted on a walnut base. The trophy is for the Western Regional BOB winner who gets a commemorative piece of Nambe ware to keep.
This trophy is offered by Frank Cassano
The trophy is named for my second saluki and foundation at Patayan.
She was Ch Pajarito Darcin FCh. bred by Polly Lee of Los Alamos, NM. She's mostly Warm Valley, with a bit of Billa d'Esta. Two bloodlines that have been pushed to the back of current pedigrees, if they appear at all.
Darcin had a modest show career. She was RWB under Donald Weiden, the first time he judged at Santa Barbara. I think that also was the last time that show was benched.
When bred to the inbred Jen Araby Juwardi Bey, son Talis, he out of Jurwadi's dam, Bekitaten, she produced the BOS at SCOA's national in Stone City, Ill.
Two of her grand daughters also went BOS at subsequent national specialties.
The trophy itself is from the Nambe' foundry, very near Los Alamos, NM. Nambe' is an alloy of eight different metals and I happened on it wandering around the shops in Sante Fe. It immediately said a saluki trophy to me. I also had the walnut wood case designed and built for it.
I thought that the New Mexico connection (Polly Lee/Pajarito and the Nambe' foundry) was important (or at least interesting).
