BOOK OF RECORDS
The purpose of the Book of Records (BOR) committee is to publish an annual compilation of historical nature of all saluki titlists in the USA. This should encompass all AKC titles as well as other coursing, racing and UKC venues, the major winners at our National Specialty and the Regional(s) held. All entries in each category are published with a 3 generation pedigree and an optional picture may accompany the pedigree. Other selected items of interest will be included as space permits such as a sire, dam and kennel index.
The committee collects the data from all the areas of interest (AKC Awards, Titles of Record, UKC Titles on line, NOFCA, NACAand TCC published, LGRA, NOTRA and ASFA records keepers, show catalogs) throughout the year, generates and maintains a database to accurately input all the data on the saluki titlists for the year and at the end of the appropriate timeframe solicits year end data from the records keepers of the trial giving clubs. The pedigree people each maintain their own databases systems and share pedigree data.
In mid February, after all the data has been procured, a letter is sent out to all known owners, co-owners and breeders of each saluki titlist that year letting them know of their saluki’s entry into the BOR and inviting them to insert a picture to accompany the pedigree (at a pre-arranged cost). This letter also solicits advertisements. The pictures and ads have a submission deadline of April 1st so the BOR will be available for distribution at the SCOA National in June.
For the committee members who work on this project annually, it is truly a labor of love. Over 300 pedigrees are generated into plain text format by one team of volunteers. The data scrubbing team takes those files and uniformly formats them - this process takes approximately 10 minutes per pedigree - that is a minimum of 50 hours of data scrubbing time. The proofreading team next review the scrubbed pedigrees, making corrections to spelling, titles, etc. Pedigrees are cross referenced for the highest degree of accuracy. All this is before the pagination and layout occurs - which is yet another layer to the process.
The final product makes it all worthwhile - the SCOA BOR is a reference periodical that should be a part of any serious saluki fancier's library. Please take the SCOA Store button link to order your copy!
